India’s festive gifting culture is evolving, with consumers increasingly choosing curated gourmet hampers over conventional boxes of mithai. Premium chocolates, dry fruits, healthy snacks, artisanal treats and personalised gift combinations are gaining popularity as shoppers seek more thoughtful and contemporary gifting options.
Quick-commerce platforms such as Swiggy, Blinkit and Zepto are making festive gifting more accessible, offering consumers a wide range of products that can be ordered conveniently. While traditional sweets remain an integral part of Indian celebrations, changing dietary preferences, premiumisation and personalisation are reshaping the gifting market.
Industry leaders from brands including Éntisi Chocolatier, SMOOR, Ferns N Petals (FNP), MTR Foods, Farmley and Food Square India are witnessing growing demand for curated festive hampers. For some brands, gifting contributes a significant share of seasonal revenue, with Diwali emerging as one of the most important periods for sales.
From Traditional Sweets to Curated Hampers
India’s festive gifting market is moving beyond the conventional exchange of sweets towards more personalised and experience-driven choices. Consumers are increasingly considering the recipient’s preferences, the occasion and the relationship when selecting a gift.
According to industry executives, gifting is becoming an important business segment for premium chocolate brands. Éntisi Chocolatier reports that gifting accounts for approximately 50% of its overall business, rising to around 80% during the festive season. Similarly, SMOOR estimates that gifting contributes 25–30% of its revenue, with demand rising significantly between October and December.
Ferns N Petals has also observed a transformation in consumer behaviour over the past three decades. The focus is shifting from gifting as a traditional ritual to expressing emotions and strengthening personal and professional relationships through carefully selected products.
Even established food brands such as MTR Foods are adapting to these changing expectations. Consumers continue to value traditional sweets but are showing greater interest in variety, ingredient quality and portion-controlled options featuring jaggery, dates, dry fruits and ghee.
Healthy snacking brands are benefiting from this shift as well. Farmley notes that traditional mithai continues to hold cultural significance, while healthier snacks and premium alternatives are increasingly finding space in festive gifting baskets.
Health-Conscious Choices and Premiumisation Drive Demand
Consumers are not abandoning traditional sweets; instead, they are exploring new ways to celebrate while balancing taste, quality and dietary preferences.
Premium chocolates, flavoured nuts, stuffed dates, artisanal cookies and gourmet cheese selections are becoming attractive alternatives to conventional gifting options. These products offer variety and allow consumers to create hampers tailored to individual preferences.
Food Square India has reported that gifting contributes around 10% of retail revenue during a typical month, increasing to approximately 20–25% during the peak festive season. The retailer attributes this growth to demand for contemporary products and customised gifting combinations.
At the same time, brands are reimagining traditional favourites to appeal to modern consumers. MTR Foods, for instance, has introduced Mysore Pak Date Bites, combining the familiar richness of its ghee and jaggery Mysore Pak with dates and nuts.
SMOOR is also experimenting with less-sweet products and premium chocolate combinations. Its Kunafa offering with 70% dark chocolate reflects growing interest in sophisticated flavours that balance sweetness with richer chocolate notes.
These trends indicate that premiumisation is expanding beyond metropolitan consumers, with greater digital exposure introducing shoppers in smaller cities to new gifting formats and products.
How Brands Are Approaching Festive Marketing
To capture seasonal demand, brands are combining digital marketing, retail experiences, personalised services and omnichannel distribution.
Éntisi Chocolatier focuses on digital discovery, using product visuals and packaging-led storytelling to showcase its gifting collections, price points and different occasions. SMOOR combines digital communication with local marketing initiatives, including radio campaigns in markets such as Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Ferns N Petals follows an omnichannel approach that brings together its e-commerce platform, more than 350 stores, social media, creators and quick-commerce partnerships. The strategy aims to make gift discovery and purchasing more convenient during the festive rush.
MTR Foods, meanwhile, uses cultural storytelling to connect its products with Indian traditions. Its India’s Sweetest Language initiative celebrates the role of sweets in expressing emotions through an illustrated book, a digital film and its product portfolio.
Farmley places emphasis on consistent packaging and the unboxing experience, ensuring that product presentation reinforces the brand's identity. Food Square India focuses on customised gifting catalogues and in-store gifting concierges who help customers select and personalise their hampers.
Quick Commerce Adds Convenience to Festive Gifting
Quick-commerce platforms are emerging as important channels for festive purchases, particularly for consumers looking for last-minute gifts. Their assortment of chocolates, mithai, juices, snacks and packaged foods makes it easier to discover and order gifts within a short time.
For brands, these platforms offer an additional route to reach consumers during high-demand festive periods. The combination of product variety, convenience and rapid delivery is helping gourmet hampers become more accessible to a broader audience.
The Future of Festive Gifting in India
India’s festive gifting market is moving towards a balance between tradition and modern consumer preferences. While sweets remain emotionally and culturally significant, curated hampers are gaining traction through personalisation, premium ingredients, healthier alternatives and attractive packaging.
For brands, the opportunity lies in combining familiar festive flavours with new products, meaningful storytelling and convenient purchasing experiences. As digital platforms and quick commerce continue to expand consumer choice, gourmet hampers are likely to remain an important part of India’s evolving festive gifting landscape.
