Britannia’s Milk Bikis is using Tamil Nadu’s deep cultural connection with the Thirukkural to strengthen its relationship with the next generation of consumers.
With the brand already reaching over 90% of households in Tamil Nadu, the challenge is no longer awareness but keeping the brand culturally relevant and ensuring the affinity built by one generation is passed on to the next.
Turning biscuits into a learning experience
Milk Bikis has partnered with Talented to create special packs featuring words from three Thirukkural couplets.
The words are randomised across the biscuits, encouraging children and parents to collect and arrange them to complete the verses. The initiative focuses on themes such as friendship, learning and perseverance.
Culture meets everyday behaviour
Instead of simply printing the Thirukkural on packaging, Milk Bikis has placed the words directly on the biscuits.
The idea builds on an existing consumer habit of eating the biscuit letter by letter, turning a familiar snack ritual into an opportunity for curiosity, discovery and learning.
Building parent-child connections
The campaign is designed to create conversations between parents and children.
When children discover unfamiliar Tamil words on the biscuits, they can ask their parents about their meaning, creating a shared learning moment.
For Milk Bikis, the objective is not just communication but cultural participation and meaningful engagement.
A deeper Tamil Nadu connection
The Thirukkural initiative builds on Milk Bikis’ broader strategy of using Tamil language, culture and consumer insights in its marketing.
Previous initiatives such as A Bite of Tamil Nadu, Anaivarukkum and Adengappa Kadhaigal have similarly focused on local cultural connections and parent-child relationships.
The brand also works with educators, scholars and cultural voices to ensure its campaigns are rooted in authentic Tamil experiences rather than simply using cultural symbols.
Keeping the next generation engaged
Milk Bikis believes younger consumers increasingly want to participate rather than passively consume brand messages.
Technology, QR codes, AI and personalised content are helping the brand turn its packaging and campaigns into interactive experiences.
The Thirukkural initiative follows this broader shift from traditional advertising towards participation, personalisation and cultural discovery.
The bigger takeaway
Milk Bikis demonstrates how a highly penetrated regional brand can continue growing by moving beyond awareness and product communication.
By combining culture + nostalgia + technology + parent-child engagement, Britannia is attempting to ensure that the emotional connection built with Tamil Nadu's older consumers remains relevant for the next generation.
