JioStar Unveils Book on India’s Unscripted Entertainment
JioStar has launched a coffee table book titled “The Billion Emotions Engine: Home of Unscripted”, highlighting the evolution, audience engagement and commercial impact of its Hindi unscripted entertainment portfolio.
Unveiled at FICCI FRAMES 2026, the publication explores the success of popular reality and entertainment franchises, including Bigg Boss, Laughter Chefs Unlimited Entertainment, Roadies, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Splitsvilla, Hustle and Koffee With Karan.
The book offers insights into how these shows have shaped India's entertainment landscape while creating opportunities for advertisers, content creators and emerging talent.
Reaching One Billion Viewers
According to JioStar, its Hindi unscripted entertainment portfolio reached 1 billion viewers during FY25, generating an impressive 460 billion minutes of watch time.
Younger audiences accounted for approximately two-thirds of total viewing time, highlighting the growing popularity of reality-based entertainment among younger demographics.
Additionally, the previous seasons of its shows collectively recorded over 27 billion social media views, demonstrating their influence beyond traditional television and streaming platforms.
A Portfolio of Established and Emerging Franchises
JioStar's unscripted content portfolio consists of approximately 70% homegrown originals and 30% international formats.
Several franchises have maintained strong audience connections over the years. Bigg Boss has entered its 20th year, Koffee With Karan has completed more than two decades, Roadies is in its 21st season, and Splitsvilla recently concluded its 16th season.
The publication also showcases innovations in reality television production.
One example is The 50, which featured 50 celebrities participating in a 27-day production involving more than 115 cameras across a two-storey set, without a celebrity host.
Over 1,000 Brand Associations
Beyond viewership, the book highlights the growing importance of unscripted entertainment as a platform for brand partnerships.
Between 2022 and 2026, more than 1,000 brands partnered with JioStar's unscripted properties, spanning industries such as automobiles, FMCG, fashion, consumer electronics and home products.
Several brands have developed long-term relationships with individual shows.
Hero MotoCorp's Karizma, an early partner of Roadies, returned as title sponsor for its 20th season. Nivea expanded its association from Dhamaal With Pati Patni Aur Panga to Laughter Chefs Season 3, while Jaquar extended its partnership with Koffee With Karan across additional product categories.
Meanwhile, fashion brand NEWME introduced an interactive Shop The Look feature on JioHotstar during Splitsvilla, allowing viewers to shop for outfits featured on the show.
These collaborations demonstrate how entertainment properties are evolving beyond conventional sponsorships to offer integrated consumer experiences.
Supporting Talent and Creative Innovation
The publication also recognises the contribution of production houses, creators and participants who have helped build JioStar's unscripted entertainment ecosystem.
According to the company, Hustle has introduced 96 rappers to mainstream audiences across five seasons, while several personalities from its reality shows have progressed into roles as hosts, judges and mentors.
Alok Jain, Head of Hindi & English Entertainment Business (Streaming, TV & Studios) at JioStar, emphasised that the company's Always On Unscripted approach focuses on supporting talent, creative storytelling, brand collaborations and audience engagement.
He described the book as a celebration of the collective contributions of creators, participants, advertisers and viewers who have shaped the company's entertainment journey.
With established franchises and evolving content formats, JioStar continues to position unscripted entertainment as a significant driver of audience engagement, cultural conversations and brand integration opportunities across television and digital platforms.
